Sr. Carmelita (Mary Greevy) came to the Dominican Congregation of St. Thomas Aquinas in Tacoma from Ballagdereen, Ireland in August 1905. She was assigned Sister Superior of Holy Rosary School in 1926 at the request of Fr. Lanigan.
The accompanying photo is of Sr. Mary Carmelita with Sr. Ursula at the Consecration of the Church in 1951.
The 1946 Rosarian, the Holy Rosary Yearbook, describes Sr. Carmelita:
We watched you in the halls,
Dear Sister Carmelita;
Heard the rustle of your habit
And your rosary as you walked;
Heard your gentle footsteps cross our threshold.
And from the rows of our desks—
From our wondering inexperience,
We looked up at your face, serene, sincere,
Heard your loving admonition
From those prayer worn lips.
How often in the stormy years ahead
Shall we look back, and,
With a sudden, sweet remembered tenderness,
Draw nearer Heaven for a single thought of you.– Agnes McSharry, Class of 1946
